Melvene Helen (Borgwald) Perry, 91, Sand Springs, Oklahoma, passed from this life Saturday, August 4, 2012. She was born in Sand Springs, Oklahoma on April 24, 1921 to Charles V and Lottie M. Borgwald. After attending Sand Springs Schools, Melvene worked several places in Tulsa including Bovaird Supply Company and the International Petroleum Exposition each time it was held in Tulsa. She married Marshall V. Perry in 1942 and during the war while posted in Eagle Pass, Texas, Melvene managed the Post Exchange.
After her children were born, Melvene worked actively with the P.T.A. as a member of the Council, and was a Brownies, Girl Scout, and Cub Scout leader. As a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sand Springs, she taught Sunday School for many years. She also volunteered at the church and participated in Vacation Bible School every year until she was in her 80s. Melvene was also an active member of the Sand Springs Women’s Golf Association, the Sand Springs Women’s Club, the American Legion Auxilliary, and volunteered at the Sand Springs Museum.
Preceding Melvene in death are her parents, her brother Charles J. Borgwald, and her husband of 57 years, Marshall V. Perry, and brother-in-law John Perry. She is survived by a daughter Marsha M. Bolstad and husband Vernon J. Bolstad of Springfield, Missouri; a son Mark D. Perry and wife Linda Jones Perry of Sand Springs; three grandchildren, Andrea Paige Richmond and husband John of Kansas City, Missouri, Lance M. Bolstad of Ozark, Missouri, and Jill Alison Perry of Tulsa; two great-grandchildren, Jackson Perry Richmond and Peyton Elizabeth Richmond of Kansas City; sisters-in-laws Dixie Perry and Dorothea Roemer both of Sand Springs; many other cousins, nephews, and hundreds of friends.
Funeral services for Melvene will be Thursday, August 9, 2012, at 2:00 P.M. in the First Presbyterian Church in Sand Springs. Interment will follow in the Woodland Memorial Park. Visitation for Melvene will be Wednesday, August 8, 2012 from 6-8 PM.
