Oren Virgil Davis

U.S. Veteran

Oren Virgil Davis, 88, of Tulsa, OK passed from this life on Friday, August 10, 2012. Virgil was born on October 26, 1923 in Gravette, AR to Marion and Pansy Lee (Painter) Davis.

Virgil grew up and attended school in Decatur, AR before joining the United States Army at the age of 17. He served his country in World War II under the command of General Patton in the Campaign across Europe. On foot he crossed from France to Czechoslovakia acquiring frozen feet and a bullet wound. He was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart along with numerous ribbons and citations.

After returning home from war, he was united in marriage to Patricia Kitchens on October 5, 1946 in Decatur, AR. They enjoyed nearly 66 years of marriage and together raised two daughters, Ginger and Julia. Mr. and Mrs. Davis spent many years residing in California. Virgil built two ocean fishing vessels and commercial fished albacore, then later salmon, before returning to Oklahoma to enjoy retirement. He is fondly remembered by his family as a great man who could build nearly anything. In his spare time, Virgil loved music and dancing, and enjoyed playing dominos, cards, camping and fishing, and just having a good time. His most relished times were, however, with Patricia spent enjoying their daughters and grandkids.

Virgil is survived by his wife, Patricia of the home; daughters, Ginger Heegel and husband Don, and Julia Roberts and husband Pat; sister, Louella Miller; grandchildren, Jeffrey With and wife Susan, Rebecca Hawkins and husband Clint, Matthew Roberts, and Sean Roberts; step-grandchildren, Jennelle Heegel and Kimberly Heegel; and great-grandchildren, Drake Hawkins, Delilah Hawkins, and Lennon Roberts.

A graveside service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Woodland Memorial Park with Military Funeral Honors.

Viewing and visitation will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at Mobley-Dodson Funeral Service.
