Mary Boone, 98, a long-time Mannford resident passed from this life and into the presence of her Lord on Monday, August 13, 2012 in Mannford. One of seven children of John Henry Hill and Laura Bell (Harris) Hill, she was born in Center, OK on September 10, 1913. Her husband, Sam Noel Boone preceded her in death in 1982. A hard worker, Mary worked for several eating establishments in the Mannford area, including Steer Inn.
She loved to be busy and was one of the first active members of the Mannford Senior Citizens Group where she spurred on many activities. An excellent seamstress, she made many of her children’s clothes through the years and then moved on into the next generation, making clothes for her grandchildren. Her sewing skills gravitated into hat making in later years and she became known as the “Hat Lady” at Cimarron Pointe Center where she moved because she was always seen wearing a hat, most of which were her own creation. Cooking came naturally to Mary and her family remembers the excellent fried chicken dinners on Sunday after church. If unexpected relatives or friends showed up, Mary would just have someone get another chicken from the chicken pen to make sure there was plenty for everyone. She did not like to just sit, and always found things to do to keep her busy, including tour bus trips to various sites in the United States for her and a friend or family member. Mary was a long-time member of Mannford Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Betty Brashears and husband Kenneth of Mannford, Yvonne Anderson and husband Gordon of Hensley, Arkansas, and Jeanette Ross and husband John of Choctaw, OK, two sons, R. L. Boone and wife Donna of Mannford, and Jack Boone of Tulsa, grandchildren, Robert and Marilyn Boone, Debbie Hawkins, Georgia and Randy Mattox, Steve and Brenda Brashears, Mark Brashears, Russell and Beverly Brown, Monte and Susan Brown, Kevin and Teresa Adkins, Brian Adkins, Becky Milo, Kelly and Donna Boone, Noal and Melda Boone, Wendy Boone, and Jackie and Robert Kerley, a number of great and great-great grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, Kay Boone, other extended family members and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Sam Noel Boone, a son, Jerry Boone, two sisters, four brothers, a grandson-in-law, Jeff Hawkins, and a great-granddaughter, Christine Boone.
The Boone family wishes to thank Cimarron Pointe and Rose Rock Health Care for the loving and professional care given to their mother.
